Some people like to keep lots of secrets, some people have a tendency to be a pathological liar, and some people just simply want to hide their feelings, figuring out how to express them. And what if, one more time, what if… all those feelings, all those lies, all those secrets were spoken out and roamed through people’s ears and mind. What would you do? How would you deal with all those risks that arise from these ‘truths’?
But then again, what is ‘truth’? Is ‘truth’ even real? Is it absolute? Which truth? Don’t people have their own version of truths? You know that, don’t you? But yous lot still keen on searching for the truth. More or less, we’re trying to capture all those questions and confusion through “Muted Truths”.
This song came spontaneously during our very first time jamming together at Gemma’s family villa in the northern hill of Bandung. It is one of the first three songs that we crafted together as a band.
“Muted Truths” consists of simple-yet-murky guitar works with complex basslines and repetitive-slash-generic drum patterns. For about two or three months, we were polishing this song as perfect (as per our standard) as it can get before we hit the studio to record it and wrote the lyrics one day prior to the recording day.
Since this song is officially our first ‘touch’ with the world, we have no big expectations for what it is to come since we more-or-less just like to destroy every expectation about us. Just listen to the song and maybe, just maybe, when the song ends, that little grin on your mouth will rise and you’ll tell your friends, your summer fling, your sugar mommy and daddy, your religion teacher, your gym trainer, your akung, your cici and koko, your tulang, and everyone; that we’re here with a debut single.

What if every little thought that lives inside your head
Instead of hiding away in there was spoken out, was said?
Would you be embarrassed? Would you hate your mouth?
Would you rather be mute than let the truth come out?
What if every little thing that people thought of you
Instead of being tucked away, was heard, was listened to?
Would you be ashamed? Would you cover your ears?
Would you rather be deaf than let the truth come near?
And what if every image that passes through your thoughts
Was freed from its prison to roam until it rots?
Would you be disgusted? Would you look away?
Would you rather be blind than see your thoughts at play?
What is it that one really needs?
With no one else be depleted
All the seeds, sign of lives
But with greed everything dies
Devoid of true knowledge what is it that I seek?
I see myself so very weak my vision, so blinded
my eyes itself closes that I cannot see
My thoughts, why they never side with me
They followed the down path
Got me fussing over things over all the nothingness
Never mattered to me
The body deteriorates
every day, every second passes
This time who will it be the one to get to decode
The mysteries; the real truths
Which could liberate but to think deeper
What really is
The answer lies very deep within much closer than
Who you really are
