about
The song initially started from an animation project of a friend of mine. Telling me that he wanted a score for his animation, I then decided to play and improvise along for the score. The original version was way less "Raga-ish" but it did help me discover the possibilities in creating different pacing and chapters within one song.
Obviously the title "Mahabharata" was taken, or borrowed from the Sanskrit epic of ancient India. I tried to 'rebuild' the song to fit the imageries of the epic. The singing does not contain any lyrical meaning and what seem to be incomprehensible chantings are truly, mostly, just incomprehensible chanting, as I was not trying to retell the story. All the words are just ramblings and spontaneous voicing, although there were some words like "Raksasha" that I sang here and there.
Personally I think this song is quite the representation of the main colours in my musical practice: intuitive, slow-building, somber, emotional, and in a way, both vague and metaphorical. It has brought me onto many new grounds both as a song writer and a performer.

Label notes:
"Mahabharata" was originally recorded back in 2012, and had been on an indefinite formal release queue since then, as we always thought of the song as vinyl-worthy (we don't have any local pressing plant so pressing on vinyl is still a big deal here) and always been putting the possibilities of other formats on hold. "Mahabharata" will be released on a step-by-step basis, as we start with a digital release, and then we progress further with putting out cassettes and CDs, while building towards finally releasing the vinyl version of the track, assuming that there would be no major impediment in doing so.
